Every trip we take puts carbon into the atmosphere, hence the name Carbon Voyage.

We are a team of people committed to finding quick solutions to address climate change – and we decided to focus on transport because it is responsible for a quarter of our carbon footprint. We bring together experience from the transport sector as well as technology entrepreneurs who can deliver Web 2.0 solutions to meet the challenge of climate change.

About Carbon Voyage

Carbon Voyage was created to cut the cost of transport – whether it be money, time and/or carbon. We provide a one-stop shop for people to easily get their transport needs met. In addition, our technology helps match up opportunities to share journeys or fill empty vehicles, both of which can radically cut the financial and environmental cost of travel. Carbon Voyage is a privately funded limited company founded in 2009 and headquartered in London.

There are 22,000 licensed taxis and 46,000 private hire vehicles in London

The taxi industry consumes over 700,000 tonnes of fuel and is responsible for over 2 million tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

The majority of taxis have CO₂ emissions of 226 g/km and above. The Toyota Prius has a CO₂ emission rating of 104g/km.

Taxis emit more CO₂ than buses for the same number of people.

Taxi fares will rise 3.4% in 2009 to meet higher black cab running costs, but only 1/3 of these vehicles are on a system that allows jobs to be sent to them.

A business in which employees take an average of forty 10 kilometre taxi trips per month generates 1.2 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
